Gen Mai Cha

Long Leaf Sencha tea or "Popcorn" tea, Gen Mai Cha is the Japanese name for green tea with roasted brown rice.

Some of the grains pop during the roasting process leaving the rice puffed, resembling popcorn. Gen Mai Cha is one of the most popular teas consumed in Japan. It has a long history dating back with Japanese peasants who added the rice to the tea as a filler to extend their tea supply. The flavor is toasty, nutty and sweet. Brew in 150-175° water for 1-3 minutes.

Gen Mai Cha is an acquired taste. Two Leaves has a great loose leaf of this sencha tea. I think the sweetness even has hints of vanilla or tapioca. Very earthy, smooth and nutty. I brew mine for 2.5 minutes.
