India has some of the world's finest tea growing regions. The climate and elevation are ideal for growing premium teas. India is the host country for two of the world's most well known single region black teas, Darjeeling and Assam.
Assam is located in the North East corner of India above Bangladesh. It is the oldest of India's tea growing regions which is most well know for it's tea bag (CTC) teas, but we work closely with gardens to get the best quality, organic whole leaf orthodox teas. Assam surrounds the Bhramaputra river. The loamy soil and hot, humid days produce rich, fullbodied teas, which we use in our Assam and Mtn High Chai teas.
Darjeeling is also located in the Northern part of India, in between Bhutan and Nepal. The tea plants are high grown at elevations of between 2000 and 7000 feet, often on the sides of steep cliff-like mountains. The teas from Darjeeling are famous for their light, floral complex flavors.
