Tea adventures with Heath
Our certification manager, Heath Hillman, has had the kind of tea training around the world most of us only dream of. We chatted with Heath about Germany’s role in tea production, what it’s like to stand in a tea garden, and how we can all get better at tasting tea. Continue reading

Steeped in quirkiness
Every workplace has its own culture — you know, what makes your office distinctly different, including the rules you follow to get along with everyone. I was thinking about office culture this morning when I walked in and glanced at Richard’s office. See, the boss (that’s him) is in Europe for a couple of weeks. Yesterday, we received an enormous UPS shipment of tea, and the boxes were crowding out our reception area. So of course, by the time I got in this morning, most of those boxes had been moved into his office — the biggest space in here with the fantastic view of the Roaring Fork River. That’s the sort of he’s-gone-so-let’s-use-his-space-as-temporary-storage move that happens in most workplaces, I think. So I decided to compile a few facts about office culture at two leaves and a bud that … Continue reading

Quest for the perfect paper cup
It goes without saying that we’re always tasting new tea around here. And then yesterday I caught Richard in the tasting area, slurping away from a ceramic mug and a paper cup that looked like they were filled with water. Yup — a water tasting. But it’s not what you think. See, Richard loves the taste of the water in here in Basalt, Colo., which comes from a natural spring on top of Basalt Mountain, above town. We don’t even have a water filter on our office sink. What he was really finding out was what his favorite water tastes like in each of these cups. It seems he’s been looking for an environmentally-friendly paper cup that we can use and recommend to coffee shops that serve our teas. Plenty of paper cups tout how green they are. Typically they’re … Continue reading

The Mad Scientist at work!
The holiday aroma is among us here in the office…. Richard is busy mixing and brewing different variations for this year’s new Organic Chai blend. There are bits of cloves, cinnamom, pepper and cardamom blown around by the wind and ground into the carpet! Smells yummy! When brewing up Chai blends with so many ingredients you need to brew up at least two cups each to account for all the size variations and potency of the spicy flavors. It takes many different mixtures and lots of slurping to match up to our current Chai flavor profile! Love all the spicy smells but reminds me too much of winter! Not yet!! It has been in the 80′s and I am not quite ready to start thinking about sitting by the fire with Hot Chai quite yet! The summers up here in … Continue reading
Tasting and reviewing Two Leaves and Bud Teas
Do you have some of our tea? have you drank or tea before? We want you to taste and review our Two Leaves and a Bud teas, weather it is one of our organic green tea, white tea, or black tea. To help you with the task at hand here are the questions to ask yourself when sampling one of tea: 1. Describe the appearance of the dry leaves. Are they whole or broken? Are the leaves twisted or flat, regular or uneven? 2. Describe the color of the tea liquor (liquid). 3. Close your eyes and inhale. What does it smell like? 4. Now, slurp the tea-don’t worry about making loud noises. Spread it all over your tongue and mouth. What flavor notes do you detect? 5. Finally, swallow the tea. Is the finish (or aftertaste) long or short, … Continue reading
